What's happening??? - A Picnic

It has been a long time since I published something on this blog. A lot has happened in between. Some good and some bad but ofcourse, everything happens for the best.

The two significant events in between was the picnic organized by Frank's company and our trip to Spa. The picnic was a good time for all the employees in Belgium to get together along with their families. It was organized in a park located near the Netherlands border.

This park was an ideal picnic spot. The organizers certainly picked a very good location for the event. There was enough space and facilities for a myriad of recreational activities. There were many restaurants and one such restaurant was booked entirely for the employees and their families.

Four gigantic buses took us to the park in the morning. It was one of those occasional glorious days with lots of sunshine.

The group was split into smaller teams to compete in an obstacle course first. I found this activity very difficult and tiring. I participated just to exhibit the tiny bit of team spirit in me.

We all proceeded to the restaurant for a sumptous meal of what seemed like an endless array of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. I can remember grilled chicken, fish fillets, meat cuts, salmon along with fries, rolls, pasta and pizza.

We were all given a stack of coupons for drinks. There was just too much of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available in the restaurant. Belgium is known for its beer and on this day, beer was flowing in the park.

I am very fond of pedal boating. I got very excited seeing the boating facilities in the park. I managed to convince Frank (that was difficult) to do some pedal boating.

I did have some fun during pedal boating although we did it for only a short while. It brought back memories of picnics with my family in USA.

We moved on to mini-golf later during the day. This was the first time I associated with anything remotely associated with this sport. I always used to wonder why well-dressed men are walking around with sticks in a lush surroundings trying to nick a ball into a hole in the ground (as seen on tv).

Surprisingly, I really enjoyed mini-golf. I realized that it required some style, finesse and technique to be able to get the ball into that hole.

I did some bowling too in the end. Despite Frank's best efforts to make me aim for the pins, I always had the ball moving towards the corners. Hey, maybe I will improve if I get to practice it just a little more.

I am not so much of a picnic person especially if I am out with the "not my types". However, this day was not as bad as I expected it to be. I was involved in so many activities that I didn't realize that it was time to get back onto those huge buses to head home.
